Study Visit to the Basic Court in Prishtina – Special Department

At the invitation of Mr. Vesel Ismajli, Judge of the Special Department at the Basic Court in Prishtina and a member of the Advisory Body of the Faculty of Law, students from the Faculty of Law, accompanied by the academic staff of the Criminal Law department—Assoc. Prof. Dr. Islam Qerimi, Dean, and LL.M. Assistant Xhemajl Veliqi, PhD (c)—participated in a study visit to this institution.

During the visit, students had the opportunity to observe a court session dealing with a war crimes case related to the Dubrava Prison Massacre. This massacre, which occurred between May 19-24, 1999, during the Kosovo War, resulted in the killing of at least 99 Albanian prisoners and the wounding of approximately 200 others. In the session, witnesses, who were also victims of this atrocity, provided crucial testimonies to shed light on the case. Due to the complexity of the crime, the judicial process for evidence collection will continue in future sessions.

During the visit, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Islam Qerimi, expressed his gratitude for the ongoing collaboration between the Faculty and the Advisory Body of the Court. On this occasion, certificates of appreciation were awarded for their professional contributions and support to:

  • Mr. Vesel Ismajli, Judge of the Special Department,
  • Mr. Fatmir Behrami, Prosecutor at the Basic Prosecution in Prishtina,
  • Mr. Besim Parduzi, Attorney-at-law.

This study visit represents a significant step in strengthening the connection between higher education and judicial practice, offering students the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge and experience of the justice system.
