On May 30, 2024, the students of the Faculty of Education of Isa Boletini University made the
\nthird study visit to the Resource Center for Learning and Counseling Mother Teresa in Prizren,
\naccompanied by the head of programs Ass. Gentiana Imeraj and Ass. Arbesa Uka. This school
\ncenter for the rehabilitation and education of children with special hearing and speech needs was
\nfounded in January 1950 in Mitrovica, while in January 1951, the Assembly of Kosovo approved
\nthe decision to establish this boarding school in Prizren .
\nThe goal of the Mother Teresa Resource Center for Learning and Counseling in Prizren is to
\ntransform it into a modern center for education and training of children with special hearing and
\nspeech needs in Kosovo. The center offers support with its professional team to all children who
\nneed professional help. The Resource Center team serves as a consultant for educational staff
\nworking with this category of students.
\nThe main functions of this institution include:
\n\u2013 Providing teaching for all children with special hearing and speech needs.
\n\u2013 Support in the design of individual education plans (IEP).
\n– Identification and referral for assessment of children who are outside the learning process and
\nthose who are in schools and preschool institutions and need support.
\n\u2013 Supporting preschool institutions and regular schools, as well as parents.
\n\u2013 Supporting students and teachers in regular schools through traveling teachers.
\n– Drafting and distribution of teaching and auxiliary materials for students.
\n– Providing technical and teaching equipment for students with special hearing and speech needs
\nand creating equal opportunities for children.
\nUltimately, the visit was important to the education students because it provided them with in-
\ndepth knowledge of current inclusive education practices and helped them better understand the
\nneeds and challenges of children with special needs. This hands-on experience can help students
\nbetter prepare for their teaching careers and make a positive impact on the education of all
\nstudents, including those with special needs.
