Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Islam Qerimi, Participated in the Scientific Roundtable on the Impact of Social Media on the Perception of Justice
The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Islam Qerimi, participated in the roundtable discussion titled “The Impact of Social Media on the Perception of Justice,” organized by the Faculty of Law of.
This academic and professional roundtable brought together representatives of judicial institutions, university professors, security experts, members of civil society, and students, with the aim of discussing the impact of social media on shaping public opinion and trust in justice institutions in Kosovo.
During the discussions, the legal, institutional, and social dimensions of the impact of social networks were addressed, with a particular focus on the challenges related to disinformation, fake news, and the phenomenon of “trial by public opinion.” From a scientific and academic perspective, the research findings highlighted the dual role of social media in relation to justice: while they contribute to greater transparency and civic participation, they may also negatively affect the integrity of judicial processes through information manipulation and the creation of biased public perceptions.
The roundtable also emphasized the importance of strengthening media and legal education, as well as the need to develop institutional mechanisms that ensure a balance between freedom of expression and the protection of judicial impartiality.
The project was led by Associate Professor Dr. Enver Buçaj from the Faculty of Law and Associate Professor Dr. Naim Baftiu from the Faculty of Computer Sciences, in cooperation with the students Ledian Berisha, Anida Duja, and Bardha Elshani.
