The Faculty of Law at “Isa Boletini” University in Mitrovicë organized an international co-lecture in close collaboration with the Faculty of Law at the University of Cologne. In this event, Professors Anja Schiemann and Islam Qerimi delivered a comparative lecture on German and Kosovar criminal procedure. The lecture covered the history, objectives, sources of criminal law, structure, and fundamental principles of criminal procedure in Germany, with a particular focus on respecting fundamental rights and balancing justice with legal security.

In the second part, the lecture addressed criminal procedure in Kosovo, highlighting the role of the state prosecutor, principles of prosecution, and the importance of complying with legal provisions and international human rights conventions. Furthermore, the Advanced Criminal Procedure lecture included a comparative aspect of Kosovar criminal procedure with that of the European Union, as provided in the Faculty of Law curriculum for the current semester.

Students expressed particular interest in the comparative lecture, emphasizing its importance for understanding different legal practices and principles in an international context.

This co-lecture represents an important step for the Faculty of Law at UIBM toward deepening international academic collaboration and developing comparative perspectives in the field of criminal law.
