Participation of the Dean of the Faculty of Law in the Workshop on Property Rights Registration
On May 29, 2025, upon the invitation of BIRN as part of the “Piakos” project, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Islam Qerimi, participated in a professional workshop organized in cooperation with the Chamber of Notaries and other relevant institutions.
The workshop, titled “Registration of Property Rights: Notarial Acts and Their Registration in the Registry,” was held at the premises of the Municipality of Mitrovica and aimed to deepen inter-institutional cooperation as well as advance practices in the field of property and notarial law.
The main lecturer of the workshop, in his capacity as a legal expert contracted by BIRN, was Prof. Ass. Dr. Bashkim Preteni, a professor at the Faculty of Law – University of Prishtina and one of the founders of the notarial service in Kosovo.
The event was attended by representatives from the justice system, including notaries, judges, lawyers, and cadastral experts. Topics covered included:
- Legal titles and rights registered in the Registry;
- The time validity of notarial acts for registration;
- Sale and preregistration of construction units in collective buildings;
- Content and necessary documentation for notarial acts;
- Correction and alienation of property, including registration in the name of only one spouse;
- Execution of temporary court measures;
- The importance of inter-institutional cooperation for verification, communication, and data exchange.
The active participation of the Dean of the Faculty of Law in this workshop demonstrates our institution’s commitment to enhancing professional cooperation and sharing experiences with key stakeholders in the field of justice in Kosovo. The discussions from this roundtable will also contribute to the Faculty of Law’s curriculum, and full agreement was reached to continue with similar workshops in the near future at the premises of UIBM.
