Students of the Faculty of Law at UIBM participated in a training session for professionals in the field of transitional justice
Students of the Faculty of Law participated in a professional training session in the field of transitional justice, organized within the framework of the “Reconcile” project. The project is supported by the European Union and implemented by BIRN Hub and BIRN Kosovo. It is being carried out in Kosovo and several other countries across the Western Balkans.
This project represents an important effort to encourage discussion on transitional justice and dealing with the past, with the aim of strengthening reconciliation and preventing the recurrence of conflict. The focus of the project is on empowering diverse communities in the Western Balkans through the training of media professionals, public institutions, and students, by providing specialized knowledge on war crimes, judicial processes, reporting ethics, the role of the media in documenting the truth, as well as the impact of hate speech and disinformation on distorting that truth.
During the training, three informative lectures were delivered by speakers with extensive professional experience:
Lecture I: Documentation of War Crimes in International Media
Jeta Xharra, Executive Director of BIRN Kosovo
Lecture II: The Transition of War Crimes Investigations from International to Domestic Mechanisms – Building the Prosecutorial System for War Crimes
Drita Hajdari, former Special Prosecutor at the Special Prosecution Office of the Republic of Kosovo and Head of the War Crimes Department
*Lecture III: Collection of Evidence for War Crimes by Institutions and Non-Governmental Organizations – The Experience of the Council for the Defense of Human Rights and Freedoms with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia
Ibrahim Makolli, former Head of the Kosovo Delegation on Missing Persons and member of the Council for the Defense of Human Rights and Freedoms
Participation in this training enabled students of the Faculty of Law to deepen their theoretical and practical knowledge of transitional justice, further preparing them for professional engagement in the fields of justice, human rights, and media.
