In co-organization with the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Mitrovica “Isa Boletini”, Prof. Dr. Islam Qerimi, an open lecture was held today on the topic “Transitional Justice and Public Discourse in Kosovo”, which sparked exceptional interest among the students of this faculty.

The speaker at this lecture was the well-known investigative journalist Serbeze Haxhiaj, who for years has professionally covered issues related to dealing with the past, transitional justice, and processes of social reconciliation. During her presentation, Ms. Haxhiaj shared with the students her extensive field experience, particularly regarding the investigation of war crimes, the challenges of media reporting, and the role of public discourse in addressing the past.

She elaborated on the normative concept of transitional justice, the importance of its codification, and the functioning of key mechanisms aimed at establishing peace and justice in post-conflict societies. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in open discussions, reflecting both their high level of interest and the relevance of the topic to their professional and academic development.

Ms. Haxhiaj is currently a news editor at Radio Television of Kosovo and a researcher at the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network. Her rich career includes reporting on human rights, security issues, religious extremism, terrorism, organized crime, corruption, and war crimes. She has previously worked for several well-known local and international media outlets, including Rilindja, Zëri, Lajm, Koha Ditore, and has contributed articles to The Financial Times, Der Standard, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Voice of America, World Politics Review, Al Jazeera, among others. For her valuable work, she has been awarded 19 prizes by local and international organizations, including the EU Award for Investigative Journalism (2020).

The strong interest shown by the students once again demonstrated the importance of topics related to justice, truth, and peacebuilding, making this lecture a valuable contribution to their professional formation.
